Of dogs and politicians

Kerala chief minister V.S. Achutanandan was turned away by a furious father of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, a commando who was killed during the Mumbai terror strikes. The father was apparently angry and insulted when the chief minister’s security detail sent sniffer dogs and commandos ahead of the ‘condolence’ visit. Now, the chief minister hits back by saying, “Even a dog would not have come here if it had not been for Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan becoming a martyr.”

That remark has set off a storm, not least among Achutanandan’s communist comrades. NDTV has the story:

The storm over Kerala chief minister VS Achuthanandan’s remark on Major Unnikrishnan’s family continues.

“Adding unimaginable insult to injury,” that is what the Kerala chief minister said when a father who had just lost his only son turned away politicians.

Other politicians like R R Patil, Vilasrao Deshmukh and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi have also shown remarkable insensitivity, fuelling the prevalent rage against politicians. For more stories on politicians getting it all wrong click here, here, here and here.
