The name is Rajnikanth

rajni.jpgrajni.jpgrajni.jpg[Updated on March 25]The Tamil superstar wasn’t present but his daughter, director Soundarya filled in. Rajnikanth’s official biography [The Name is Rajnikanth by Gayathri Srikanth, Rs 490, Om Books] was released in Chennai at a function during which journalist Cho Ramaswamy compared Rajni with Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, saying the film star would make a good CM because, like Modi, he ‘follows the principles of the Mahabharat’.

“Rajnikanth is a good administrator. If he enters politics and becomes the chief minister, he will take Tamil Nadu towards prosperity”, Cho, known to be a critic of both the DMK and AIADMK brand of politics, said.

Shobha Warrier in Rediff interviews Rajnikanth’s biography, Gayathri Srikanth:

Your phone’s ringtone is Rajnikath’s dialogue from Sivaji. Did you choose it after you started the book?

Yes. After I finished the book, I decided that I must have a Sivaji ringtone. I also programmed it in my husband’s phone though he protested saying he was a doctor!

Can Rajini rescue this book?

Sadanand Menon reviews the book in Outlook

Rajnikanth in his superstar avatar, wriggles out of every tight spot with capers that would have left Houdini in a cold sweat. Consider this. Rajini faces three gangsters. He has a gun, but only two bullets. He throws his knife at the middle gangster and aims a bullet at the knife. The bullet hits the knife, gets sliced in two, and veers off to kill gangsters on either flank, even as the knife takes care of the guy in the middle.

Another time, Rajini is chased by a gangster. This time his gun has no bullets. Gangster turns and fires a shot. Guess what Rajini does? Nah, not even in your wildest imagination. He sidesteps, catches the bullet in his own gun chamber and bang…. The gangster is history.

Sorry, can’t resist adding more about this book’s description:

“The book painstakingly seeks to record every nuance of Rajinikanth`s life: the joys and sorrows, the pains and ecstasies, loves and betrayals. It also does not shy away from underlining the two extremes that have remained an intrinsic part of his highly eventful career: the human and the divine. The book tells the essential truth about Rajinikanth that has thus far remained unknown to his vast fan following.”

I read the book “The Name is Rajnikanth” last week (english version).
The book is full of mistakes. Both factual mistakes as well as spelling mistakes.
I am really surprised that the author has no knowledge on Rajnikanth’s films or its titles. I am really surprised that the publisher has not taken any efforts to run the book through some ardent rajnikanth fans to check some facts relating to his movies.
It was sad reading the book with so many mistakes. I am going to send the book back to the publisher and ask for a refund of Rs 490. (some sample of mistakes: a) Rajni’s role as police Alex Pandian is in movie called Moondru Mugam and not Moondru Mudichu. b) Rajni was not the hero of Aboorva Raagangal. It was Kamal. c) Rajni’s movie Moondru Mudichu is not a slap stick comedy. Its a serious story and Rajni is a serious villain in that movie. Rajni’s slap stick comedy with K.Balachander was Thillu Mullu and not Moondru Mudichu. d) Rajni and Sivakumar acted in Bhuvana oru Kelvikurri and not in Bhuvana oru kavi Kuyil. Kavi Kuyil is a different movie by itself. e) Director Shankar had nothing to do with the movie Johnny. Johnny was directed by Mr Mahendran. The list of mistakes is endless. It was frustrating to read the book. Hope Mr and Mrs Rajnikanth read this book fully before they attend various functions and launch the book in other parts of the world.

    tger ramesh,

what you must understand is that the book deals more with the personal life. the author clearly has veered away from his filmography, like she has mentionbed in interviews. who cares what movie he has acted? the story about rags to riches is more important than the movies.

besides delhi wallas cannot differentiate mugam and mudichu it could be a type set error, i think these are minor mistakes.

stop criticising and just see how phenomenal the person is.

    well said santosh,

there are people waiting to criticise anything and everything. it is the book about the man and not his cinema. some people are late in picking up clues.

anything about rajnikanth is good and this book is also ok.

  8. 8 Tiger Ramesh

Mr Santosh and Ms Reshmika – Sorry. I can’t let it go because i have paid for this book and i don’t want to read wrong information after paying for it. Its very sad that we do not insist on quality. We always are tolerant to sub standard work.

I have read a lot of bad books in my life, but this is beyond bad. In fact I blogged about it: (http://bnambiar.blogspot.com/search/label/gayathri%20srikanth). This is 3 hours of my life I will never get back.
